Photochemistry is a rapidly advancing field that has become essential in modern synthetic chemistry. At SpiroChem, we harness the potential of photoredox catalysis to access compounds that would be inaccessible using classic thermal conditions, driving forward the discovery of molecules that would be synthetically inaccessible or very challenging to make, allowing our medicinal chemists to focus on designing the molecules that make sense for a particular project, not only the ones that can be made using standard techniques.
Generate focused smart libraries - we have used our toolbox of reactivities to build molecules that are perceived as complex but that are fully synthetically enabled. This allows us to use photoredox catalysis for the fast generation of focused smart libraries, a powerful strategy for rapid interrogation and exploration of chemical space around a hit for example (in hit-to-lead), or for preparing a large number of analogues in the lead optimization phase.
1. Hit synthesis - efficient and modular fragment couplings for hit synthesis.
2. Hit-to-lead efforts - rapid generation of analogues for structure-activity relationships (SAR) in hit-to-lead efforts.
3. Lead stage - more convergent core or scaffold syntheses at the lead stage.
4. Late-stage functionalization - efficient and regioselective late-stage functionalization with small groups to adjust properties such as potency, selectivity, or pharmacokinetic profile of an advanced lead.
