Laboratory Technician – Organic Chemistry.

Basel - CH 4057 
Starting date: The position is open starting June 1st, 2017 or afterward upon agreement.

Position summary:

This position is to perform and document routine tasks related to sample processing and assays, standard laboratory methods and/or basic laboratory techniques, functions and equipment. To conduct specific procedures and tests both within and outside of the laboratory requiring the use of applied knowledge and practical chemistry skills. The successful candidate is holding a Bachelor or Master degree in synthetic organic chemistry or equivalent. Knowledge of modern chemical and analytical techniques is mandatory.

Specifically, you will provide support to the laboratory department by performing and/or coordinating a variety of laboratory processes:

- Register and prepare samples for general analytical testing (NMR and MS spectroscopy) through sample receiving, data entry, weighing, physical homogenization, and shipping (FedEx/DHL/UPS). - Manage the inventory of chemical reagents and catalog substances. - Operate basic laboratory equipment. - Synthesize and handle catalog substances. - Prepare (and assure accuracy of) standards, reagents, etc. needed for analyses. - Perform routine lab and department maintenance to keep area clean and orderly. - Order chemical reagents from suppliers.

Qualifications

Bachelor or Master chemistry degree in synthetic organic chemistry. Versatility in common IT applications (Microsoft office). Proficient use of scientific databases (SciFinder, Reaxys), chemistry softwares (ChemDraw, ChemInventory) and electronic laboratory journal (E-Notebook). Excellent organizational skills and accuracy in experimental documentation. Good communications skills and fluency in English and German are essential.
